Working out in the sweet Oklahoma heat. Not good, but great for you.

Benefits of Working Out in the Heat (Oh yeah, summer is here!)

While the thought of running, doing box jumps and push-ups in a 100-plus degree room may make you want to give up before your workout has even begun, there are countless fitness professionals who agree that heat may help your progress more than air conditioning.  Especially when it’s hot, sticky and humid out. Consider the fact that people pay more for Bikram, Hot Power Yoga, Tracy Anderson, Figure 4 Fahrenheit, etc,,, the list of heated studios continues to grow — and with the promise of accelerated fat burning and mental strengthening, their appeal (despite the roasting) is hard to overlook.

It’s summer, so that means more water consumption anyway.  On training days, stay hydrated.  Yes during the workout, but hydrate around the clock.  For better toxin flushing and for your safety.

Here are a few reasons why you should LOVE TRAINING IN THE HEAT:

Detoxification

Heat has a detoxifying effect on the body and mind. The discipline of moving with a sustained intensity while sweating profusely promotes a deeper level of mental strength and concentration. It teaches you to get comfortable with the uncomfortable, exceed the limitations of the mind and overcome mental obstacles. That’s for the brainiacs.  What it does for detoxing the body is huge.  Your skin is your largest organ.  By sweating profusely, you’re helping your liver out by ridding your body of nasty toxins.

Metabolic Conditioning

The heat adds a cardiovascular aspect because it increases the heart rate more than in air conditioning, meaning you burn more calories than in a non-heated room while strengthening your heart health.

Flexibility

Heat warms the muscles quicker, so you can get better range of motion and recover faster between workout days.

Mental Strength

The mental concentration and strength you cultivate during a hot workout is different than one in an air conditioned gym. Just getting through the warm up can be a challenge! It leaves you feeling a tremendous sense of accomplishment and confidence because it challenges you to push through the mental and physical resistance, transcend the discomfort and embrace a feeling of strength and serenity. As the body gets stronger and more flexible, the mind goes along for the ride.

Fat Loss

Heat and increased circulation do wonders for fat loss.  Thank mother nature for that one. With a higher metabolic rate, your body will require more fuel thus leading to more fat burning. Pair that with a well thought our program and you are well on your way to reaching your fitness goals.
